                              Call for Papers

                         International Workshop on
               Aspect-Oriented Software Development (WAOSD 2004)
                   September 27, 2004, Beijing, China
                 (http://www.fit.ac.jp/~zhao/waosd2004/)

                       Held in conjunction with
                    2nd IEEE International Conference on
Software Engineering and Formal Methods (SEFM2004)
                    September 26-30, Beijing, China
                     (http://www.iist.unu.edu/SEFM2004/)

Aspect-oriented software development (AOSD) is a new technique to support
separation of concerns in software development. The techniques of AOSD
make it possible to modularize crosscutting aspects of a system. Like
objects in object-oriented software development, aspects in AOSD may
arise at any stage of the software life cycle, including requirements
specification, design, implementation, etc. Some examples of crosscutting
aspects are exception handling, synchronization, and resource sharing.

The goal of this workshop is to create a fruitful discussion about the
aspect-oriented software development. By bringing together different
research communities that work in this field, we hope to achieve
cross-fertilization and exchange of ideas.

Topics

All papers related to AOSD are welcome. Topics of interest for the
workshop include, but are not limited to:

Application of formal method to AOSD
    Aspect-oriented analysis and design
Aspect-oriented software architectures and product lines
Application and tool support for AOSD
    Aspect interference and composition
Design and implementation of aspect-oriented languages
    Semantics and type systems
    Software development methods and patterns
    Reverse engineering and refactoring
    Contracts, components, and aspects
    Analysis techniques for aspect-oriented systems
Verification and testing of aspect-oriented systems
    Metrics and evaluation for AOSD

Paper Submission

Prospective participants are invited to submit papers (up to 12 pages)
written in English in the format of Elsevier's ENTCS Proceedings
(http://math.tulane.edu/~entcs/) before July 15 2004. Email addresses
and fax numbers of the authors should be included on the title page.
Submitted papers must not substantially overlap with papers that have
been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a
conference with proceedings. Program committee will review all
submitted papers according to the relevance and originality of the
work and to their ability to generate discussion among the workshop
participants. The authors of the papers will be notified on August 10
2004. Submitted papers should be in PDF or Postscript format and should
be electronically submitted to: Jianjun Zhao (zhao [at] cs.fit.ac.jp)

To grant an easy dissemination of the proposed ideas and to favorite an
ideas interchange among the participants, accepted papers will be made
available in advance over the Web and all participants are encouraged
to read the accepted papers in advance. A hardcopy of the workshop
proceedings will be distributed to participants at the workshop. We
are planning (approval pending) that the Final Proceedings will be
published in the Electronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science
Series (ENTCS). In addition, it is also planned a special issue with
extended and revised versions of the best papers on a journal.
