Call for Papers and Presentations

The 21st IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance
(ICSM 2005), with associated SCAM, STEP, VISSOFT, WSE and
Evolvability will be held 25-30 September 2005 in Budapest,
Hungary. We invite Research Papers, Industrial Applications,
Panels, Tool Demonstrations, Dissertation Forum, and Tutorials.

*There will be special sections of IEEE Transactions on Software
*Engineering and Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution
*featuring selected papers of the conference.

The submission deadline for Research Papers is 21 March 2005 and
for all other presentations 30 April 2005.

The International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM) is the
world's major international conference for software and systems
maintenance, evolution, and management. For the 21st ICSM 2005 we
invite you to join us in exploring issues related to maintaining,
modifying, enhancing, and testing operational systems, and
designing, building, testing, and evolving maintainable systems.
The theme of this year's conference will be "Continuous Evolution."

Please forward this Call to anybody who you think may be
interested. Our apologies if you received multiple copies of
this.

RESEARCH PAPERS

Research papers should describe original and significant work in
the research and practice of software maintenance and evolution.
Case studies, empirical research, and well-designed experiments
are particularly welcome. Research papers must not exceed 10
pages in final printed form. Submit to
http://www.rcost.unisannio.it/~icsm2005papers by 21 March 2005.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Proposals for presentations of Industrial Applications are
particularly welcome, with an eye to sharing industrial problems,
experiences and insights with the research community. These
should be state-of-the-art descriptions, problem analyses,
experience reports, and survey reports from real projects,
industrial practices, solutions and models. A dedicated sub-
committee of the Program Committee will review Industrial
Application proposals. Accepted industrial application
descriptions will be included in a volume of the conference
Proceedings. Industrial applications must not exceed 10 pages in
final printed form. Submit by email to icsm2005.industrial@inf.u-
szeged.hu by 30 April 2005.

PANELS

ICSM 2005 invites proposals for panel sessions that serve to
stimulate discussion about ideas and issues of importance to the
software maintenance community. We particularly welcome proposals
for highly interactive panel sessions that encourage discussion
and debate. A one-page summary of the panel will be included in
the conference Proceedings. Submit a short description about the
topic and the potential panelists by email to
icsm2005.panels [at] inf.u-szeged.hu by 30 April 2005.

TOOL DEMONSTRATIONS

We invite proposals for both commercial and research tools. The
goal of the tool demonstration session is to let conference
participants view software maintenance tools in action and discuss
these systems with their creators. A four-page presentation of
each accepted tool will be included in a volume of the conference
Proceedings. Submit a description of the tool and its
applicability to software maintenance by email to
icsm2005.tools [at] inf.u-szeged.hu by 30 April 2005.

DISSERTATION FORUM

We welcome submissions from researchers that defended their
dissertation (Ph.D.) in the last three years (2002-2004) or will
defend by the submission deadline. This forum is intended to
expose the work of young researchers to established researchers
and the broader software maintenance and evolution community.

Please submit a synopsis of your dissertation of 4 pages or less
and the full dissertation in PDF. Each submission will be
reviewed by at least two program committee members. Accepted
synopses will be included in the conference proceedings and a
special Dissertation Forum session will be organized at the
conference. Submit by email to icsm2005.dissertation@inf.u-
szeged.hu by 30 April 2005.

TUTORIALS

Tutorials should present software maintenance and evolution topics
of interest to practitioners. Tutorials may be full day or half-
day in length. If you have expertise on specific software
evolution methods, techniques, or processes, submit a tutorial
proposal to ICSM 2005. Your proposal should include learning
objectives, a description of the target audience, intended
duration (half day or full day), a content summary, and a brief
(50 words max.) curriculum of the teachers. Tutorials will be
selected based on relevance, quality, and ability to attract
sufficient interest. Two-page descriptions of accepted Tutorials
will be included in the Proceedings. Submit by email to
icsm2005.tutorials [at] inf.u-szeged.hu by 30 April 2005.

MEDIA AND STYLE

Submissions will be accepted only as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat
PDF, or PostScript electronic submission. All submissions must be
in English.
