Cybernetics and Systems
(Taylor & Francis, indexed by SCI-E) Call for Papers Special Issue on "Social Awareness in Smart Spaces" +-------------------------------------------------------------+
Smart spaces are not only surrounded by
networked computers,
mobile devices and ubiquitous sensors, they also encapsulate a large amount of social and communication information. Humans, the center of pervasive computing, are social beings. Smart spaces should not only serve them with seamless, context-aware access to information, but support them in their social activities and capabilities, by, for example, increasing their social awareness (that is, providing them with information about their own social behaviour and the social behaviour of others), or by acting in order to actively promote change and social well-being. Smart spaces, devices and sensors can be used to extract raw data that is then assembled by the system to understand individual and group social context, providing the knowledge that the system can then use to act on groups and individuals in order to foster social well-being. With social augmentation, smart spaces have increased potential in supporting spontaneous social interactions and serendipity, such as making new friends, discovering shared interests, constructing instant communities, as well as interaction in structured groups (e.g., working teams). The potential impact of these technologies is very high as are the scientific and technical challenges. For these reasons, socially aware computing has been a hot topic of investigation in fields such as pervasive and ubiquitous computing, multimodal interactions, to name but a few. This special issue will involve both the science and technology aspects of social awareness (or socially aware computing) in smart spaces. It will accept theoretical papers that address social computing models, social network analysis, reasoning, behavior modeling and recognition. It will also accept papers that report upon the latest technical results in this area, i.e., applying social and behavioral science to the design of intelligent systems that enable efficient collaboration and support social interaction in applied settings. The papers will be peer reviewed and will be selected on the basis of their quality and relevance to the theme of this special issue. ---------- Topics ---------- Topics of interests include, but are not limited to,
- Social computing models
- Social network analysis - Social context modeling and reasoning - Socially aware interfaces - Group interaction and collaboration - Conflict resolution - Human behavior modeling and recognition - Wearable community - Affective computing - Trust and privacy - System and service interoperability - Supporting social interaction with RFID, smart phones, and public displays - Architectures and platforms for socially aware systems - Applications such as smart homes, healthcare provision, and meeting space - Evaluation of socially aware systems -------------------
