なお、なるべく多数の学生さんに参加していただきたいので、

The NTCIR-9 Workshop Meeting and the 4th International Workshop on
Evaluating Information Access (EVIA 2011) will be held on December 6-9,
2011, at NII in Tokyo, Japan. Anyone who is interested in research
areas related to NTCIR, such as Information Retrieval, Question
Answering, Information Extraction, Text Mining and Data Engineering,
Machine Translation, is welcome to attend and join the discussion.

The previous NTCIR Workshop Meeting, NTCIR-8, held in June 2010,
had a total of 180 attendees from 18 different countries
contributed to discussion and exchanging the experiences with one
another. Among them about half were researchers participated in
the "task(s) -- shared experiment task(s)" set by NTCIR, and others
contributed to fruitful discussion.

At NTCIR-9 Meeting, active information access (IA) researchers will get
together again and share their experiences, and discuss the future plan
and the roadmap for leveraging the IA research.

NTCIR-9 has hosted the following four core tasks and three pilot tasks,
under a new organization structure.

[Core Tasks]
  * GeoTime: Document Retrieval for When and Where queries
  * INTENT: Mining Diversified User's intent and  search results
       1CLICK subtask: Investigate the whole page relevance of SERP
  * RITE: Recognizing Inference in Text
  * SpokenDoc: Information Retrieval for Spoken Documents

[Pilot Tasks]
  * CrossLink: Cross-Lingual Link Discovery
  * VisEx: Interactive Visual Exploratory
  * PatentMT: Translation of Patent Documents

The overview and system papers will be presented at the Meeting
on DAY 2-4 (December 7-9).

Moreover, NTCIR-9 features exciting special talks.

NTCIR (エンティサイル、NII Test Collections for Information Retrieval
and Access Systems) は、情報検索、質問応答、要約、テキストマイニング、機
械翻訳など膨大な情報の中から所望の情報にアクセスし、情報の理解や活用を支
援する技術の大規模な評価基盤を国内外の多数の研究者が共有し、その共通基盤
の上でそれぞれの研究を進め、検証をし、相互に学びあうフォーラムを形成する
プロジェクトです。1998年から開始し、IRとNLPの融合によるより豊かな情報ア
クセス技術の実現を標榜し、1年半を1サイクルとして、毎回、いくつかのタスク
（＝研究部門）を選択して活動を進めてきました。

第9回NTCIRでは、運営体制を一新し、７つのタスクを選定しました。そのほとん
どはNTCIR-9から始まる新しいものです。参加チーム数もNTCIR-8から増加し、17
カ国の119団体が一つ以上のタスクに参加表明をし、実験を進めています。

■コアタスク：
・地理・時間情報の検索 (GeoTime)
・クエリの検索意図解析によるDiversity Search (INTENT）
　＋SERPのページ全体の質の向上(1CLICK)
・テキスト間の推論（含意）認識と質問応答（RITE）
・音声文書の検索（SpokenDoc）、

■パイロットタスク：
・言語横断リンクの発見（CrossLink）
・対話的情報探索と可視化（VisEX）
・特許の統計的機械翻訳（PatentMT）

NTCIR-9成果報告会・EVIA 2011は、どなたでもご参加いただけるオープン・イベ
ントです。成果報告会では、タスク参加チームの研究成果や、比較評価によって
得られた知見が発表されます。

世界中の評価フォーラムからの最新報告を含むエキサイティングな招待講演を予
定しています。前回は、18ヶ国から180名以上の参加者があり、熱心に議論をし
ました。
