Call for student travel grants for WUWNet'13
The 8th ACM International Conference on Underwater Networks & Systems
Overview
WUWNet 2013 has received funding to support student authors to present their research papers as well as their work-in-progress posters and demos at the 2013 ACM International Conference on Underwater Networks & Systems (WUWNet'13), which will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on November 11-13, 2013.
The goal is to broaden participation in the conference by supporting students with interests in underwater networks and systems who would otherwise be unable to attend. The Call for Poster/Demo is at: http://wuwnet.acm.org/2013/index.php. Please consider a submission to the Poster/Demo session.
For students from Asia:
The amount of support provided to each student will range from $300 to $500 depending on the travel distance from his/her home institution to the conference site.
For students from other continents:
The amount of support provided to each student will range from $500 to $1200 depending on the travel distance from his/her home institution to the conference site.
Note that the support is intended to defray, but not necessarily to cover entirely, the costs of attending the conference (registration, at the student rate, hotel, and transportation.
The award will be handled via reimbursements. Each legitimate expense must be documented with an original official receipt (e.g., air ticket and hotel receipt). Further details of the reimbursement procedure will be communicated to the award recipients.
Applications
When applying for the WUWNet'13 travel grant, a graduate student needs to submit his/her curriculum vitae, a short personal statement, and a supporting email from the student's advisor.
The personal statement (half to one page) should include:
- A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date;
- A description of areas in the ACM WUWNet 2013 program that would impact the student's research;
- The paper/poster/demo that the student is an author on, if applicable.
In addition, the student's advisor should send an email to confirm that the student is a bona fide Ph.D. or M.S. candidate in good standing. Applications and the support letters should be emailed by the applicant and the applicant's advisor, respectively, to song [at] engr.uconn.edu with subject line WUWNet'13 Student Travel Grant Application or WUWNet'13 Student Travel Grant Support Letter. ASCII format is preferred, although PDF format is acceptable.
The travel grant committee is headed by Prof. Song Han, University of Connecticut.
Eligibility
Any graduate student who is in interested in attending WUWNet’13 can apply for the travel grant. Priority will be given to students who are authors of regular papers, short papers, extended abstracts, or work-in-progress posters, and team members of the demos. Depending on the funding, other student attendants will also be considered.
