１．報告集

●会議名：20th ACM Conference on Information and Knowledge Management
          (CIKM2012)

10月24日から28日にかけてイギリスのグラスゴーで開催されたCIKM2011に参
加してまいりました。DB、IR、KM分野の大きな会議ということもあり、500名
を越える人が参加しており大いに盛り上がった会議でした。開催場所のグラ
スゴーはスコットランドを代表する都市で、中心部は非常におしゃれで活気
がありました （会議の場所は中心地からすこしずれていましたが）。また、
スコットランドということで会議の前日にはウィスキー蒸留所の見学ツアー
があったり、レセプションではウイスキーがふるまわれたりと、存分にスコ
ッチウイスキーを堪能することができました。
私は主にIR系のセッションを聴講しました。「Unsupervised Transactional
Query Classification Based on Webpage Form Understanding」、「Finding
Dimensions for Queries」といったユーザの情報要求理解に関する研究や
「Do All Birds Tweet the Same? Characterizing Twitter Around the
World」、「What and How Children Search on the Web」といった分析系の
研究が興味深かったと思います。会議全体としてはクエリ分類、情報抽出に
関する論文が多かったそうで、また、印象としてはソーシャルネットワーク
系の論文も多かったように思います。
私はポスター発表を行いました。５パラのセッションのうちの１つというこ
とで、どの程度人が来るのか心配だったのですが、いざセッションが始まっ
てみると多くの人がポスターセッションの方に足を運んでおり大変盛況でし
た。私も２時間みっちりと自分の研究について議論させていただくことがで
きました。
また、会議の初日と最終日にはチュートリアルとワークショップが行われま
した。私が参加したワークショップは10人程度の参加者でテーブルを囲んで
議論をしていく形のワークショップで、普段英語を話しなれていない私にと
っては議論についていくだけでも大変でしたが、「ワークショップ 」らしい
とても良い会議だったと思います。
来年のCIKM2012はハワイのマウイ島で開催される予定です。魅力的な場所で
開催されるということで、（私を含め）日本から多くの投稿があることを期
待したいと思います。


●勉強会名：RecSys2011勉強会

1. はじめに
2011年12月18日（日）に，RecSys2011勉強会を開催致しました．会場は，関
西は兵庫県立大学，関東は株式会社リクルートであり，両会場をSkypeにより
接続し，遠隔で開催致しました．参加者は19名（関西：11名，関東：8名）で
した．本報告では，RecSys2011勉強会の開催趣旨を説明したうえで，本勉強
会の概要を報告させて頂きます．

2. 開催趣旨
2011年10月23日〜27日にシカゴ（アメリカ）で開催されました，情報推薦の
トップカンファレンス ACM Recommender Systems 2011（RecSys2011）で発表
された論文を参加者の皆で分担して紹介するというものです．このような勉
強会は，これまでにもSIGMOD勉強会やVLDB勉強会などが開催されております
が，RecSys勉強会は今回で2回目となります．RecSys2011にて発表された論文
は22本であり，1名が1本の紹介を行いました．1本あたり10分とし，5分を概
要紹介，2分をレビュー，3分を質疑の時間に割り当てました．また，今回は
チュートリアル講演も紹介の対象に含めました．チュートリアル講演の紹介
は1件あたり30分の時間を確保しました．

本勉強会の特徴は，昨年度同様に，概要紹介に加え，レビューおよび質疑を
取り入れた点にあります．レビューでは，論文を「新規性・独創性」および
「有効性・重要性」の二つの観点から5段階で評価付けを行い，その理由につ
いて説明を行います．レビューを取り入れることにより，その論文のポイン
トが要点良くまとめられたのではないかと思います．また，発表者からの論
文紹介後，両会場の参加者からの質疑の時間を設けました．両会場から多く
の質疑がありました．両会場はSkypeで接続していますが，特に遠隔というこ
とによる問題はなく，スムーズな質疑応答ができました．質疑の時間を取り
入れることにより，参加者が気になったこともその場で解消でき，また質疑
以外にも参加者の中から論文に対する的確な指摘もあり参加者全員にとって
有意義な時間となったのではないかと思います．

また，今回初めての試みとして，チュートリアル講演も紹介の対象に含めま
した．本会議で講演されたDaniel Tunkelang氏の“Recommendations as a
Conversation with the User”の講演を産業技術総合研究所 神嶌敏弘先生に
ご紹介頂きました．紹介時間は質疑含めて30分確保しました．特に，本会議
に参加できなかった人もチュートリアル講演の概要を知ることができた点，
また参加した人も改めて内容について再確認した点，さらに内容について本
勉強会参加者同士で議論できた点は，有意義であったかと思います．

3. おわりに
本勉強会は，多くの発表者の御協力により，大変盛況に終わることができま
した．私どもと致しましても，このような重要な勉強会の幹事を務めさせて
いただき，盛況に終えることができたのは，誠に光栄です．また来年度の開
催に向けて，本勉強会で得られた知見などを生かしていきたいと思います．
