Masaru Kitsuregawa, President of DBSJ15:10-15:20 Opening Remarks, CCF-DB ActivitiesZhanhui Li, Director of CCF-DB15:20-15:30 Break15:30-16:10 Invited Talk 1, Chair: Masaru KitsuregawaTitle: Cloud Native Database Systems for Enterprise ApplicationsSpeaker: Feifei Li, Vice President of Alibaba GroupAbstract: Cloud native database becomes increasingly important for the era ofcloud computing, due to the needs for elasticity and high availability.A cloud native database system leverages software-hardware co-designto explore accelerations offered by new hardware such as RDMA andNVM. New design architectures such as shared-storage and shared-everything enable a cloud-native database to decouple computation fromstorage and provide elasticity. For highly concurrent workloads thatrequire horizontal scalability, a cloud native database can also leverage ashared-nothing layer to provide distributed query and transactionprocessing. Cloud applications also require that cloud native databasesto offer high availability through distributed consensus protocols.Furthermore, The need for integrating big data processing workloadswith a traditional OLAP data warehouse inside a cloud nativedatabase/data warehouse becomes increasingly imperative, so that thesystem can provide both real-time online interative analytics and batchedoffline ETL with complex computation. We will present the key technicalideas towards building cloud native database systems and the applicationand integration and big data and AI techniques in such systems.Bio: Feifei Li is currently a Vice President of Alibaba Group, ACM DistinguishedScientist, President of the Database Products Business Unit of AlibabaCloud Intelligence, and Director of the Database and Storage Lab of DAMOacademy. He has won multiple awards from ACM and IEEE. He is arecipient of the ACM SoCC 2019 Best Paper Award (runner-up), IEEE ICDE2014 10 Years Most Influential Paper Award, ACM SIGMOD 2016 BestPaper Award, ACM SIGMOD 2015 Best System Demonstration Award, IEEEICDE 2004 Best Paper Award. He has been an associate editor, PCco-chairs, and core committee members for many prestigious journals andconferences, and has led the R&D efforts of cloud native database systemsand products at Alibaba.16:10-16:20 Break16:20-17:00 Invited Talk 2, Chair: Guoliang LiTitle: People, AI, Data and the Future of Work: Computational Division of Labor with CyborgCrowdSpeaker: Atsuyuki Morishima, Professor of University of TsukubaAbstract: JST CREST CyborgCrowd Project is a Japanese government fundedproject that started in Dec. 2016 to extend crowdsourcing technologiesto deal with hybrid workforce comprising of human and AI-poweredmachine workers in the new digital knowledge era. The project has twogoals: (1) to extend the traditional workforce to include a diverse set ofworkers, including AI workers and people who were not considered asa part of workforce in the traditional organizations, and (2) to automatethe task assignment process and dynamically optimize the assignmentin terms of not only employers’ but also workers’ viewpoints. This talkoverviews the project and gives the challenges and the current statusof the project.Bio: Atsuyuki Morishima is a professor of University of Tsukuba, Japan. Hisresearch interests include computational division of labor, data-centrichuman-machine computations, data integration and digital libraries.Currently, he is an associate editor of the VLDB Journal, and an steeringcommittee member of ICADL, DASFAA, and ACM/IEEE JCDL. He is theleader of JST CREST CyborgCrowd Project and the representative of theCrowd4U initiative. He has been involved in many real-world crowdsourcingprojects on digital libraries, digital archives, natural disaster responses andsmart cities. He received international and domestic awards including thesecond-runner-up for the ACM SIGMOD 2001 best paper award, the 2004IPSJ best paper award, the CAiSE 2015 best paper award and the 2018Emerald Literati Award. In the past, he served as the chair of SIG-DBS of theInformation Processing Society of Japan, and a steering committee memberof ACM SIGMOD Japan Chapter. He served as a track chair in ACM CIKM2008 and program co-chairs in ICADL 2016 and JCDL 2019.
