     The 3rd IEEE Intl. Maritime Big Data Workshop
            (MBDW 2022), collocated with the

23rd IEEE Intl. Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2022)

                  [ HYBRID CONFERENCE ]

              June 6, 2022, Paphos, Cyprus

              https://mbdw22.cs.ucy.ac.cy/

AIMS & TOPICS OF INTEREST:

The growth of the maritime sector has produced an increase of the global maritime traffic
and of the activities exploiting the ocean environment and its resources. Safety and
security of maritime navigation remain a concern, like the global societal objective of
reducing the environmental impact of maritime activities to pursue a sustainable and
inclusive "blue growth". Technological innovations led to the development of automated
monitoring systems and maritime sensors networks, producing a tremendous increase of the
maritime data available and opening new avenues to interdisciplinary science-driven
maritime operations and policy making. Institutional and industrial initiatives are
developing infrastructures for maritime data sharing and offering advanced processing,
fusion, and analysis, developing added values products in support of the maritime
operational and industrial communities, policy making and informed citizenship.The
Maritime Big Data Workshop 2022 is organized under the umbrella of the 23rd IEEE
International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2022). It will be an opportunity
for researchers, technology providers, institutions participating in interdisciplinary big
data initiatives, and representatives of the operational community, to meet and exchange on
research results and innovations in the maritime context. The workshop will welcome the
presentation of novel big data computational solutions with application in the maritime
context.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Novel ideas for organizing and harnessing the growing body of available Maritime data
* Maritime intelligent surveillance and reconnaissance
* Maritime situational awareness
* Maritime environment monitoring and preservation
* Maritime security
* Intelligent maritime transportation systems
* Digital twins for the maritime sector
* Estimation of the impact of maritime activities on the maritime environment
* Safety and security of maritime navigation and transport
* Sustainable fisheries and exploitation of ocean resources
* Complex maritime event recognition

The workshop will be organized in a manner that fosters interaction and
exchange of ideas among the participants. Besides regular papers, we
will also consider vision, retrospective, and work-in-progress papers
that have the potential to stimulate debate on existing solutions or
open challenges. We additionally plan to accept a limited number of
demonstration papers where researchers and technologists will have the
opportunity to describe an innovative system or tool in the area of data
management for mobile and wireless access. We discourage the submission
of incremental papers.

IMPORTANT DATES

Paper/Demo/Vision Submission: April 13, 2022  (midnight AoE)
Notification of Acceptance: April 28, 2022
Camera-ready Version Due: May 5, 2022 (midnight AoE)
Workshop Date:                June 6, 2022

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEEDINGS

Manuscripts in the following categories will be considered for
publication in the 3rd IEEE Intl. Maritime Big Data Workshop:

* Regular papers (max. 6 pages): The submission should describe
significant theoretical and/or experimental contributions to the
topics of the workshop.

* Demo OR Vision papers (max. 3 pages): The submission should either describe
some vision in the scope of the workshop or the architecture, implementation,
and usage of innovative tools or systems that fit the context of the workshop.
The presentation of demo or vision papers will be conducted in a designated
session during the workshop (in the form of short presentations).

All of the submissions should be in PDF format and conform to the IEEE MDM'22
proceedings format. Submitted papers must not have been published or currently
be under consideration for publication at another venue.

All of the submissions will be handled electronically. Each paper will
be reviewed by several members of the program committee.
Detailed submission information will be posted on the website of the workshop.

The workshop proceedings will be published in the IEEE MDM proceedings
(volume 2) by the IEEE Computer Society and electronic versions of the papers
will be included in the IEEE Xplore and DBLP.
